anatolian socks

As a lover of traditional knitted patterns I have a small collection of knits. These Anatolian socks I found in Turkey. Wool is the raw material of socks, with traditional dyes extracted from roots, barks, alum, leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds and insects. Their motifs and colors are like a silent language. Each sock has a name and a district. Variations of the arrangements or motifs are made accordion thing to the age, marital status, identity and position of the one to wear them.
Unfortunately I do not know the meaning of the pattern of my socks.
I do know that they are beautiful.

  1. Great socks Erica! Wishing you all the best for the New year!
